Project Details
- Project Name: ANTOP CRANE 120-Ton Gantry Crane Experimental Operation Project at Port Klang, Malaysia
- Partner: Port Klang Authority, Malaysia
- Equipment Model: MGH120t-40m Double-Main Girder Gantry Crane
- Test Period: March 2025 – September 2025
- Core Objectives: Verify the stability, efficiency and safety of the equipment in tropical port environments, and accumulate localized operation experience
During the project, the crane completed more than 5,000 hoisting operations. The average single-machine efficiency increased by 35% compared with the port’s original equipment, and the comprehensive equipment failure rate was controlled within 0.8%.
The experimental results exceeded expectations. They not only provided a decision-making basis for Port Klang’s subsequent equipment procurement, but also laid a solid foundation for ANTOP CRANE’s brand promotion in the Southeast Asian market.

About the Project
This project is an experimental crane operation program jointly carried out by ANTOP CRANE and Port Klang Authority of Malaysia. The project aims to verify the adaptability and reliability of China’s heavy engineering equipment in the tropical climate and high-load port operating environment of Southeast Asia.
The project lasts 6 months, covering equipment installation, commissioning, and full-load operation testing. A large amount of first-hand data has been collected, providing a solid foundation for subsequent equipment optimization and regional market promotion.
The 120-ton double-main girder gantry crane serves as the core equipment of this experiment. Equipped with advanced functions such as intelligent monitoring and anti-swing control, it represents the latest technological achievements of ANTOP CRANE in the field of port machinery.
Customer Challenges
As a core shipping hub in Malaysia and even Southeast Asia, Port Klang faces multiple operational challenges:
- Extreme Climate Conditions: Malaysia features year-round high temperature and humidity, accompanied by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, posing severe challenges to the electrical systems and anti-corrosion performance of steel structures of equipment.
- Complex Operating Requirements: The port handles a diverse range of cargoes, from standard containers to extra-long and extra-heavy steel products, placing extremely high demands on the versatility and precision of cranes.
- Pressure to Improve Efficiency: With the continuous growth of shipping volume, the port urgently needs to enhance loading and unloading efficiency to alleviate congestion and reduce vessel turnaround time.
- Insufficient Local Operation & Maintenance Capacity: There is a shortage of professional technicians capable of operating and maintaining such high-end heavy-duty equipment. Long-term reliance on overseas support has resulted in high maintenance costs and slow response.
Our Approach and Solutions
In response to the customer’s pain points, ANTOP CRANE provides a one-stop solution ranging from customized equipment design to personnel training.
1. Customized Equipment Design
- Climate-Adaptive Modification: All electrical cabinets are equipped with air conditioning cooling systems, and key structural parts are coated with marine-grade anti-corrosion coatings, effectively resisting erosion from high temperature, humidity, sea wind and salt spray.
- Modular Functional Configuration: A quick-change lifting appliance system is designed to meet the hoisting requirements of different cargoes including containers, bulk cargo and heavy components, greatly improving equipment utilization.
- Intelligent Safety System: Multiple safety protection devices such as anti-collision, swing detection and wind speed early warning are integrated to ensure safe operation under complex working conditions.
2. Refined Project Management
- On-Site Technical Support: A professional team composed of mechanical, electrical and software engineers is dispatched for full-time on-site service, providing 24-hour responsive technical support.
- Data-Driven Optimization: Through the IoT system built into the equipment, real-time operation data is collected, and regular performance analysis reports are generated to predict and address potential failures in advance.
- Phased Acceptance Mechanism: The project is divided into four phases: installation, no-load test, load test and full-load operation. Each phase is jointly inspected and accepted with the customer to ensure project quality.
3. Local Capacity Building
- Operation & Maintenance Training: A 4-week theoretical and practical training program is provided for technicians at Port Klang, covering equipment principles, routine inspection, troubleshooting and emergency response.
- Operation & Maintenance Manuals: Bilingual (Chinese-English) Equipment Operation and Maintenance Manual and Emergency Response Plan are provided to ensure that the customer’s team can operate and maintain the equipment independently after project completion.
